Piggy Houses
Indoor Cages
Guinea
pig owners seem to be an inventive lot and all sorts of items have been modified
to provide indoor living quarters! It is, of course, possible to buy purpose
made indoor cages from your local pet shop, but as these tend to be quite small,
you will need to provide an addition “exercise area” for your pets. Check out
Cavy Cages at www.cavycages.com for
inspiration and ideas.
Outdoor Runs
When the weather
permits, guinea pigs love nothing better than being able to run on fresh grass.
Pet shops stock an array of outdoor runs, most of which can be folded away when
not is use. It is a good idea to have a covered area to protect your pets from
the elements and the run should always be placed in a shady spot. It you can
get hold of some drain pipes, ridge tiles or boxes your pets will have places to
hide and shelter in. You should avoid putting your guinea pigs out on wet grass
and under no circumstances should they be placed on grass that has been treated
with weed killer. It is a good idea to only put your guinea pigs out when you
are home so that you can keep an eye out for unwelcome visitors. Don’t forget
to add a bottle of fresh drinking water to your run.
